Andrews – Beginning its fifth year Andrews holds its first Food Truck Friday from 5-8 p.m. this week to kick-start the Memorial Day weekend.
While there’ve been some changes to the schedule this year, the event looks to usher in both the summer and tourist season in the Andrews Valley. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and a hearty appetite for everything from barbecue to burgers.
The event will again feature a row of food trucks along with craft vendors lining First Street, which will be closed to allow event-goers to roam freely between there and Main Street businesses from 5-8 p.m. Music will again be held at the Hall Memorial Park gazebo, with local favorite the Rock Holler band taking the stage this week.
Executive Director Shanna Kelly said the chamber has got great lineups for each month this year, moving the event to the fourth Friday of each month and extending the season into October. Kelly and event coordinator Alaina Trull decided this year to extend the season to hopefully coincide as an introduction for the chamber’s annual Oktoberfest, which was canceled last year due to Hurricane Helene.
“We’re looking forward to featuring local artists, musicians, crafters and vendors, along with our local and regional food trucks again this year. We’re excited for this season and to being new acts to the area, along with the things people already love about Food Truck Fridays, like our Kids Area and Doggie Station for our four-legged friends.” Kelly said.
“Too, by starting later in the month and holding it the fourth Friday, we’re not competing against any other festivals or events. Everyone can take a night off from cooking and enjoy the summer season in our beautiful downtown. And we’ve already booked all of this year’s music.”
While many local residents anticipated the recently passed social district ordinance to be in place by this first Food Truck Friday, the state’s approval process may take a while longer along with the town and local businesses agreeing on the style and manner of cups. No matter though, everyone can still enjoy the Beer & Wine
Garden and enjoy various places to perch in the park with picnic tables provided.
