Texana – A community club is making sure the homeless are a bit warmer this winter, with bags containing comfort items put together with love.
Eurial Turner, president of the Texans Community Development Club, along with other generous local residents on Friday distributed red, blue, green and yellow cloth bags containing items such as scarves, gloves, caps, socks, ponchos and blankets.
While spending time with family and friends over the holidays, the Texana community did not forget those who may be struggling through difficult times in the coldest months of the year. Olive’s Porch in Murphy contributed to the care bags with colorful handmade scarves.
“Cathy LaTulipe, Olive’s Porch and John C. Campbell Folk School have a wonderful partnership with the Texana Community Development Club,” LaTulipe said.
“It was an inspiring experience to see the staff of the folk school make handmade scarves to spread warmth and support to folks who could use it. It was an honor to be a part of this meaning project.”
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office also participated by helping distribute the bags.
“For me, personally, it’s just my nature to willingly help anyone in need,” Turner said. “I don’t wait to be asked, I just move forward trying to make something positive happen.”
Texana Community Development Club members plan on continuing with different projects each quarter that will benefit others in the community.
