Ever since potter extraordinaire Mike Lalone brought the foodie fundraising idea to Cherokee and Clay counties more than a decade ago, Empty Bowls has become a fun and significant community tradition that raises both money for and awareness of local food banks.
This year’s Empty Bowls takes place Saturday at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, the perfect host for such a fun event, which raised more than $9,000 last year. In addition to a delightful family style meal prepared by the school’s chef, attendees get their choice of a handmade bowl courtesy of the school’s potters.
Alas, tickets sell out early, so you’re probably out of luck if you want to attend this weekend. However, it’s never too late to help The Sharing Center food pantry in Murphy, the Cherokee County Food Bank in Andrews, Matt’s Ministry in Hayesville and the Clay County Food Pantry, all of which deserve your support.
Together, we can help end hunger in the place we call home. Details: Visit folk-
