DOT worker still facing sex assault charges on minor girl
Murphy – Prosecutors have dismissed burglary and assault charges against a local N.C. Department of Transportation employee accused of sexually assaulting a child.
Local authorities served Robin Farmer Stalcup, 39, of Murphy, with a 2012 warrant that accused him of assaulting a man during a residential burglary. Prosecutors dismissed the charges Monday afternoon because the warrant identified the wrong defendant.
The Cherokee Scout did not report the 2012 accusations when reporting the sexual assault charges in the Oct. 7 edition because research showed the older warrant was actually served to the wrong person. Prosecutors most likely will not pursue charges against the true defendant in the case because the victim is deceased.
Stalcup surrendered to authorities on Oct. 1 after a Cherokee County grand jury issued an indictment charging him with sexually assaulting a girl under age 16 in July. He is charged with a single count of indecent liberties with a child, a felony.
Stalcup is employed as a full-time vehicle equipment repair technician with the DOT. He is also president of Murphy Youth Baseball, Softball and Tee-ball, which is governed by the Mountain Dizzy Dean youth league. He previously served as interim president of the Mountain Dizzy Dean youth league for about a year.
Stalcup has been released from jail on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
