    Thelma Jordan Garrett, 81, of Murphy, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, at her residence.
    She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County.  
    She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Marble, where she had played the piano. Thelma was a dedicated Christian, and a wonderful wife and mother.
    She was the daughter of the late Victor Blue and Pauline Rebecca Caler Jordan, and wife of the late Howard Henry Garrett, who died Dec. 13, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Curtis Garrett, who passed in 1961; a sister, Lois Jordan; five brothers, Edward, Gerald, Ray, Paul and Wayne Jordan; and a grandson, Jared Joseph Stiles.
    She is survived by a son, Howard Keith Garrett and wife Diana of Marble; a daughter, Tammy Garrett Thomas and Lou Grigsby of Blairsville, Ga.; a sister, Phyllis Brown of Warne; two brothers, Lorin Jordan of Brasstown and Bruce Jordan of Gainesville, Ga.; grandchildren Brandon Thomas and wife Ginger, Adam Stiles and wife Amanda, Ashley Shipman, Jordan Garrett Hadas and husband Ryan, Jacob Garrett and wife Rachel, Jessica Garrett, and Jamie Garrett; and 12 greatgrandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ashley Shipman, Brandon Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Ryan Hadas, Jacob Garrett and Adam Stiles. Honorary pallbearers were Jordan Garrett Hadas and Lou Grigsby.
    The family received friends from 1-2:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, prior to the service.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in memory of Thelma Jordan Garrett be made to Hospice of North Carolina, 75 Medical Park Lane, Suite C, Murphy, NC 28906.
    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of arrangements.
