    Robert Jason Dickert, 48, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, in an Asheville hospital.
    He was a native of Greenville, S.C., but had been living in Cherokee County the past five years.
    Jason was a graduate of Mars Hill University, where he served as drum major, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music. He also served as drum major at Berea High School.
    During his life, Jason was a member of the Greenville Youth Orchestra, Greenville Concert Band and Greenville Textile Heritage Band. He was a former police officer but his lifelong dream was to become a band director. In 2016, that dream came true when he became the band director for Murphy High School.
    Jason was a member of Ranger Baptist Church. His heart belonged to Jesus, and his desire was to serve Him.
    Surviving are his wife, Amy Carter Dickert; his father, Ronnie Dickert and wife Sherry of Traveler’s Rest, S.C.; his mother, Joyce Singleton of Easley, S.C.; a brother, Chip Dickert and wife Amy of Easley, S.C.; two step-sisters, Crystal Harper of Greenville, S.C., and Rachel Robinson and husband Chris of Easley, S.C.; a step-brother, Justin Mosteller and wife Melissa of Easley, S.C.; seven nieces, Tiffani Johnson, Klover Carter, Chely Dickert, Brenna Harper, Kendra and Emilee Mosteller, and Macie Robinson; and three nephews, Aidan Harper, and Colin and Meyer Robinson.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Revs. Aud Brown and Derrick Palmer officiating. The interment was in Fires Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Greg Carter, Bruce Brown, Jason Mendez, Derek Cheek, Cameron Lejeune, Chris Robinson, T.J. Evans and Jonathan Weaton.
    The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
    The family requested that those attending please wear a mask.
    There will also be a Celebration of Life in Greenville, S.C., at a later date.

    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of all arrangements.
