    Pierce Luther of Hayesville passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021. He was 88 years old.
    He was born April 11, 1933, to Bertie and Elmore Luther in Lithonia, Ga.
    Pierce served in the United States Army and attended Georgia State College in Atlanta, Ga.
    He was a member of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a frequent soloist.
    Pierce was married to the love of his life, Lula Belle Dills Luther, for 56 years.
    He was known to his family as “Papaw” and will always be remembered for his love for Jesus and his family, his sense of humor and his care for God’s creation and creatures. He loved sports and painting.
    He retired in 1995 from Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (now Aventis) a French pharmaceutical company.
    Pierce is survived by his wife, Lou; his daughter, Laura Hannaford and son-in-law Chuck Hannaford, his daughter, Jan Patterson and son-in-law David Patterson, and his daughter, Brenda Turnbull and her fiance Jeff Kennedy; grandchildren, Nick Luther, Alex Luther, Chad Hannaford (Lauren), Wayne Patterson (Bethany), Erin Leigh Patterson, Kendra Murray (Estevan), Kay Turnbull, Aiden Turnbull, Sam Turnbull; and great grandchildren, Charlie Hannaford, Henry Pierce Hannaford, Ivey Patterson, Ruby Patterson, Korah Murray, Leo Murray; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Montine Luther; and sister, Phyllis Muller.
    He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Luther and his sister, Betty Goldman.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy. Pastor Noah Crowe and Dr. Chester Jones officiated. Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga.
    We appreciate everyone who attended the funeral service, wore a mask and practiced social distancing.
