    Oscar Garrett, 93, of Copperhill, Tenn., formerly of Warne, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, in a Murphy care facility.
    He was a native of Cherokee County, and moved to Warne in 1956.
    Oscar had served in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran being stationed in Korea for 16 months.
    He began his career with Bemis Lumber Company, logging by horse in the area now known as the Cherohala Skyway. He then established Oscar Garrett Clearing Contractors, which he operated for 41 years until retiring in 1992.
    Oscar was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
    He was the son of the late Hobert Roosevelt and Florence Louise Ledford Garrett and husband of his late first wife, Retha Geraldine Farmer Garrett, who died Dec. 12, 2002. He was also preceded in death by a son, Randall “Rod” Keith Garrett; an infant daughter, Linda Faye Garrett; one granddaughter, Jessyca
Garrett Reems; and five brothers.
    Surviving are his wife, Emogene Garrett of Copperhill, Tenn.; two daughters, Tara Dockery and husband Jerome of Murphy and Sheri Garrett of Hayesville; two sons, Tony Garrett and wife Becky, and Stephen Garrett and wife Maria, all of Warne; one sister, Maxine Moore of Blue Ridge, Ga.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and also survived by many nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville, with the Rev. Jerry Morrow officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grayson Garrett, Drew Garrett, Randy McClure, Corey Garrett, David Garrett and Donovan Garrett. Honorary pallbearers will be Brice Garrett, Isaiah and Joshua Carter.  
    The family will receive friends from noon-1:45 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, at Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville, prior to the service.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Oscar Garrett to Gideons International, P.O. Box 164, Murphy, NC 28906.
