    Opal Horton Moore, 77, of Murphy, passed away Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, in Union General Hospital, Blairsville, Ga.
    She was born Dec. 28, 1943, in Cherokee County to the late Fred and Laura Edna Grogan Horton.
    Opal had worked for Levis in the textile industry.
    She was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Murphy.
    Opal enjoyed quilting, sewing and making dresses for the young women in the community. She could even lay tile. Opal was a giving, independent and tough lady.
    She was also preceded in death by a son, Sonny James Carringer; and three brothers, Clifford, Roy and John Horton.
    Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Gail Carringer of Murphy, Leonia “Sissie” Carringer Penland and husband Dwight of Hayesville, and Shari Bryant of Murphy; a brother, Troy Horton of Tomotla; three sisters, Juanita Horton Allison of Tomotla, Tabitha Horton Brown and husband Robert of the Tomotla community, and Jeannie Horton Roberts of Marble; grandchildren, Joshua Allen, Natashia Allen, Jacob Allen, Thomas Wood, Tiffany Anderson, Tabitha Bell, Haley Bryant, Storm Bryant and Kaiya Pickens; and 14 great-grandchildren.
    No services are planned at this time.
    Townson-Rose Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of all arrangements.
