    Anthony “Tony” Jackson Dickey, 62, of Murphy, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, in his home.
    He was a native of Cherokee County, and the son of the late Jack and Blanche Hamby Dickey.
    He was a retired lieutenant with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Tony loved his family, and was a good father and provider.
    Tony loved a good laugh, and is best remembered for his sense of humor and his pranks. He was known for his fast driving. When applying for Patrol School, he was asked why he wanted to be a trooper. He answered, “If you can’t beat them, join them!” Tony was a well-respected leader, mixing hard work and commitment with a sense of humor and charm. He received various promotions, beginning as a trooper and retiring as a lieutenant.
    After retiring from the Patrol, he worked with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department as Swat Team Captain and later Lead Investigator.
    Tony lived by Romans 13:1-4 and believed law enforcement was ordained by God as ministers to the people for good. He was a member of the House of Prayer in Blairsville, Ga.
    Surviving are two daughters, Jessica Chadwick and husband Neil, and Heather Patton and husband Alan; two brothers, Dr. Phillip Dickey and wife Andrea, and Jonathan Dickey and wife Charlie; grandchildren, Rhowan Bresch, Susanna Chadwick and Zuri Chadwick; nieces, Hannah Bryson, Ashley Johnson, and Olivia Dickey; nephews, Ian Johnson and Jack Dickey; and the mother of their children, Brenda Hughes Williams.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy with the Rev. Derrick Tilley officiating. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery. Pallbearers were the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Phillip Dickey, Jonathan Dickey, Ricky Rogers, Vincent Sims, Eddie Kephart and Charlie Rogers.
    The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
