Hiwassee-Dam Ranger baseball team wins finale
Hiwassee Dam – The future of the Hiwassee Dam baseball program is bright.
Hiwassee Dam/Ranger capped off the regular season Thursday, defeating the Martins Creek Hornets at home, 16-1.
The Eagles got off to a somewhat slow start, plating two runs in the bottom of the first. Micah Anderson bunted his way aboard to leadoff, before scoring on a two-out Dawson Hensley double. Jonah Dillard then followed with a single that scored Connor Davis.
Hiwassee Dam/Ranger added to its lead in the second. Michael Simms singled to begin the frame, before Seth Hooper singled him home. Davis later garnered a one-out hit to score Hooper and Hensley later smacked a deep two-out double that scored Colt Meyers and Davis.
Ahead 6-0 heading into the bottom of the third, the Eagles continued to add insurance. Jon Raper drew a leadoff walk and scored on a Simms double. Meyers singled to plate Simms. Hooper came home on an error, before an infield Davis single brought Meyers across the dish and pushed the Eagles ahead 10-0.
The runs continued to flow, as Radford Cheek notched a hit to score Anderson. Raper later got a two-out hit that plated Cheek, before a fielding error allowed Jacob Dockery to come charging home.
Martins Creek made a dent in the 13-0 deficit in the top of the fourth, when Eric West smacked a one-out single to score Luke Davis. Hiwassee Dam/Ranger then put the game away in the bottom portion of the frame, as Anderson tripled to leadoff, Davis singled him home, Dockery got a one-out hit to plate Davis and an error brought Hensley home to put an end to the game via run differential.
