Bulldogs handle Asheville High in scrimmage

Asheville – Slade McTaggart scored two rushing touchdowns and the Murphy defense took care of the rest.

The Bulldogs traveled to A.C. Reynolds Wednesday night for a 75-minute scrimmage against the Asheville Cougars and after the opening drive of the game included a short touchdown pass from Joey Curry to Tanner Creelman, came away with an unofficial 21-0 victory.

Murphy coach David Gentry was pleased with the effort from his team on both sides of the ball, but ensured that more work was needed.

"The first scrimmage is a stepping stone, hoping to get better," Gentry said. "Overall, I was pleased with the way the kids hustled. Our speed was good on both sides of the ball. But it's early. We're gonna see a lot more speed Friday."

That Friday test will come in the form of the North Murray (Ga.) Mountaineers, who will visit David Gentry Field at Bob Hendrix Stadium for a 7 p.m. scrimmage. Tickets will be $5.
