Celebrating our schools this month
Because there’s too much to celebrate in Cherokee County for print alone, Cherokee Scout Publisher David Brown and WKRK owner Tim Radford have joined forced to produce a monthly talk show, Celebrate Cherokee County.
The show airs from 2:05-3 p.m. Friday on FM-105.5/AM-1320 radio and Facebook Live, where you also can watch it later. Here’s what’s on tap for August’s show, which is focused on education since classes start later this month.
• Matthew Osborne, editor of the Andrews Journal and Cherokee Scout, along with Scout and Journal Sports Writer Kevin Hensley, will be in the studio from 2:05-2:20 p.m. to talk about the upcoming football seasons for the Bulldogs and Wildcats.
• Jeana Conley, superintendent of Cherokee County Schools, will be on hand from 2:25-2:40 p.m. to talk about the upcoming school year and what changes and improvements you can expect to see.
• Mary Jo Dyre, director of The Learning Center, will join us from 2:45-3 p.m. to talk about the 2018-19 year at the innovative charter school in Murphy.
Everyone who watches the show live is welcome to ask questions via Facebook. This is just one of the many ways your local newspaper is working to accentuate the positive in the place we call home.
