Roy L. Roper, 87, of Andrews, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at Murphy Rehabilitation & Nursing.
He was a native of Jackson County, and son of the late Walter Lee and Ophia Louise McLaughin Roper.
He was a member of Valleytown Baptist Church and a past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Andrews.
Roy loved spending time with his family and the Andrews Senior Center.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, R.L. Roper; and sisters, Joyce Pauline Cook, Mary June Smith and Bernice Ramsey.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Maybell Dockery Roper; two sons, Dr. Gary Wayne Roper and wife Dawn of Andrews, and Alan Roy Roper and wife Susan of Sevierville, Tenn.; sisters, Barbara Creasman of Andrews, Velva Bateman and Pamela Bryson, both of the Nantahala community; grandchildren, Wayne, Walker and Emily Roper; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Valleytown Baptist Church in Andrews. The Revs. Eric Byrd and Joel Creasman officiated. Music was provided by Cindy Davis and the church choir. Burial was in the Aquone Cemetery. Pallbearers wre Doug Hampton, Chuck Davis, David Cook, Scott Ramsey, Nick Bryson, Brian Creasman, Steven Hampton and Ray Smith. Honorary pallbearers were members of Masonic Lodge 529 in Andrews.
The family received friends from noon-1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Valleytown Baptist Church in Andrews.
