Opal Stiles Fox, 83, of Marble, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, in Travelers Rest, S.C.
She was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. Opal graduated from Hiwassee Dam High School, where she was an All-Star State Basketball Player all four years.
Opal worked as postmistress for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years until her retirement.
Opal enjoyed quilting. She taught dance, coached basketball and worked with the 4-H Club. Opal was an active member of the community and was of the Baptist faith.
She was the daughter of the late Cliff Thomas and Vesta Loudermilk Stiles, and wife of the late Herbert Mark Fox, who died May 1, 2003. Opal was also preceded in death by two sisters, Stella and Drucilla Stiles; and a brother, Robert Stiles.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra Bennie and husband Mike of McCaysville, Ga.; two sons, Timothy M. Fox of Murphy, and Thomas Darryl Fox and wife Maria of Travelers Rest, S.C.; two brothers, Tommy Stiles and wife Jane of Murphy, and Harold Stiles and wife Betty of Estill Springs, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Jessica Fox of Greenville, S.C., Erika Twiggs and husband Chris of Murphy, and Travis Fox of Asheville; five great-grandchildren, Abram, Elijah and Jude Twiggs, and Strafford Lafaye and Rio Fox; her dog, Misty; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Rev. Johnny Foster officiating. The interment will be in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Blairsville, Ga. Pallbearers will be Dennis and Johnny Graham, and Kurt, David, Danny and Dale Stiles.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
