Mrs. Maxine “Max” Clara Smith Jones Mettier, 81, of Blairsville, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton, Ga., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Mettier was born on Feb. 11, 1936, in Blairsville, Ga., the daughter of the late Luther Mood Smith and Arra Florence Botts Smith.
After graduation from Union County High School, Max moved to California, where she lived for over 30 years. She retired from Marin Water District and moved back to Marietta, Ga., where she worked for several years as an EMT dispatcher. Then she moved back to Blairsville and worked for United Community Bank for many years.
Max loved being “Grammie” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was well known for her chicken salad, cheese cake and love of games. She was a domino champion.
Mrs. Mettier was of the Baptist faith.
Preceding Mrs. Mettier in death are brothers Aster Wayne Smith and Arthur Smith; sisters Edna Sanders, Abby Little, Madeline Mahone and Evelyn Hogsed.
Surviving Mrs. Mettier are her husband, Henry K. Mettier; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Ann and Ted Riggs of New Bern; grandchildren, Matthew Bowie and wife Christian, Andy Bowie and wife Michelle, Cliff Mettier; great-grandchildren, Dezi, Evie, Olivia and Willie; numerous nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews along with many other friends and relatives who loved her dearly.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. and the memorial service will follow on Saturday, Jan. 13, in the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel, Blairsville, Ga. Special music will be provided by Charlotte Anderson, and the minister will be Buddy Pittman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association in memory of Mrs. Mettier.
