Mary Lou Rose Kirkland, 73, of Walhalla, S.C., and formerly of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019. at her residence.
She was a native of Cherokee County, and the daughter of the late John Harve and Lillie Van Graham Rose. Mary was a member of Violet Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Clifford Rose, Hobart Rose, Beecher Rose, Wayne Rose and Lloyd Rose; and sisters, Gladys Taylor, Edna Bolt, Ellie Morrow, Mary Odessa and Mattie Morrow.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin Delano Kirkland; one son, Michael Kirkland and wife Kristina; one daughter, Paula Kirkland; two sisters, Ruby Morrow and Margaret Cunningham; grandchildren, Travis Kirkland and wife Marianne and Josh Kirkland and wife Tabby; one great-granddaughter, Milah Kirkland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019, in the Townson-Rose Funeral Home chapel in Murphy. The Rev. Jerry Morrow officiated. Burial was in the Bear Paw Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Travis Kirkland, Joshua Kirkland, Luke Morrow, Stan Morrow, Travis Simpson and Kyle Stancil.
The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
