Martha Matherson, 76, of Hayesville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at Stonehenge Assisted Living in Blairsville, Ga.
Martha was a native of Clay County. She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Bonnie Burch Parker.
Martha was a lifelong member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and former member of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker, bookkeeper for Matherson Construction Co., and the caregiver to many.
Her life was a living tribute to her family, and she was deeply devoted to them.
Martha loved travel, gradening, cooking and music. She loved hosting gatherings with friends and family for good times and good eats at their Tusquittee Creek hideaway.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Matherson; grandson, Andrew Longcoy; brothers, Gene and Butch Parker; and sister, Beulah Mae “Boot” Conley.
Surviving are her son, David Matherson; daughters, Charlene Smith and husband Noland and Nancy Longcoy; brother, Bob Parker; sister, Mary Ann Smith; grandchildren, Carmen Lance, Bonnie and Morgan Smith, Richard and Dacey Matherson and Emma Smith; great-grandsons, Andrew and Cason Smith; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville. The Revs. Chad Chandler and Jim Payne officiated. Burial followed in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Freddie Henson, Tim Burch, Jack Lance, Ronnie Smith, Andy Smith and David Matherson.
The family received friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville.
