Katherine Twiggs

Katherine Carolyn Ledford Twiggs, 87, of Blairsville, Ga., passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Mrs. Twiggs was born the year of the Great Depression on April 11, 1929, in Cherokee County, a daughter of the late Fred Porter Ledford and the late Cecil Chastain Ledford.
She was taught from an early age to work hard for what she needed and wanted. She worked at Talc Industry for the Hitchcock Corp. in Murphy, where she retired after nearly 45 years.
Kate was a fine storyteller, proven by her tale, “Aunt Ada’s Flies,” recently published by “Hometown Memories” in The Living History of Northeast Georgia’s book Field Mules and Buttermilk Cornbread.
She absolutely adored children, all children. She loved to quilt. Yard sales were like carnivals to her.
Kate was a godly woman, and a member of Ivy Log Baptist Church. She so much looked forward to meeting the Good Lord when she left this earth and being reunited with those who have gone before.
Kate will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but especially by her family – her husband of 55 years, Randall; son, Steve Roberson; and daughter, Linda Weeks; a brother, John B. Ledford and wife Melva Lynn of Blairsville, Ga.; five grandchildren, Stacey Roberson, Scotty Roberson and wife Donna, Tina Blackstock, Heather Weeks and Dexter Stiles and wife Amanda; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Kate was preceded in death by an infant son, Eddie; her parents; sisters, Eula Ledford Buchanan, Marie Ledford Hogsed; and May and Margie Ledford; and brother, Fred Ledford Jr.
Funeral services were scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, in Ivy Log Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Black officiating. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Scotty Roberson, Dexter Stiles, Gary Raper, J.L. Davenport, Terry Collins and Marty Johnson. The following gentlemen were selected to serve as honorary escort to the family: H.B. Davenport, Ricky Twiggs and Randy Zimmerman. Burial was in Ivy Log Cemetery.
The family met with friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville.
Please share your condolences and fond memories of Kate with her family on the funeral home website, www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
