Juanita Woody Roper, 73, of Murphy, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at her residence.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Murphy. Juanita managed property and enjoyed raising her grandkids. She was a longtime member of Old Fashioned Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late James Leonard and Nettie Dockery Ashe, and wife of the late Luther Woody Jr., who died Jan. 30, 1989, and Johnnie Richard Roper, who died April 9, 2010. She was also preceded in death by a son, Tony Woody; and three brothers, Hillard, Lloyd and Jimmy Ashe.
Surviving are two sons, Danny Woody and Melidie Yocom, and Tony Duane Woody Jr. and Rachel Voyles, all of Murphy; three sisters, Hazel Elkins and husband Robert of Murphy, Kathleen Green of Blue Ridge, Ga., and Retha Crane of Farner, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Allison and Austin Woody; and two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Maria Woody.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Revs. Hoyt Brown and Ben Adams officiating. The interment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, in Old Fashioned Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jamie and Donald Woody, Dennis Patterson, Bobby Elkins, Steven McLean and Rodney Ashe. Honorary pallbearers will be Geoff Whitaker, Adam Allison, B.J. Hughes and Chris Ashe.
The family will receive friends from 5-6:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, prior to the services.
