Joyce Pinkerton Garland, 82, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at her residence.
She was born in Maryville, Tenn., to the late John and Hattie Reed Pinkerton.
Joyce retired from Owenby Manufacturing Co. She loved camping, horseshoe playing and growing tomatoes. Joyce enjoyed family gatherings and telling stories to her grandkids. She was Christian lady, who love to listen to gospel music.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Garland; one son, Roger Garland and wife Linda of Murphy; one daughter, Cleda Rabon and husband William of Murphy; grandsons, Jody Palmer, Billy Palmer, Travis Palmer, Andrew Garland and Brad Garland; granddaughters, Kristy Valerio and Kayla Rabon; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Sunny Point Baptist Church in Murphy. The Rev. Tim Dickey and Pastor Harold Stiles officiated. Music was provided by Donna and Daphne Dockery. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Jody Palmer, Billy Palmer, Travis Palmer, Andrew Garland, Brad Garland, Jacob Palmer and Zachary Palmer.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home, where the body remained until being placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service hour.
