Jimmy Lee Day, 78, of Murphy, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home.
He was born in Swain County to the late Gwin and Essie Keith Day.
Jimmy retired from General Motors.
He enjoyed gardening, jokes, carving and spending time with family.
Jimmy was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his first wife, Bernice Day; five brothers, Cecil Day, Joe Day, John Day, Wayne Day and Edward Day; and one sister, Margaret Day.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Fava Day; one son, James Day of Pontiac, Mich.; two sisters, Ruth Wheeler of Andrews and Willa Dean Mashburn of Waynesville; and many grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Rev. Chris Furl officiated. Burial was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in the Nantahala community.
The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
