Jerry Robinson

    Jerry A. Robinson, 75, of Hayesville, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019, in a Clay County care facility.
    He was born and raised on the Harshaw Farm in Murphy, but lived most of his life in Hayesville.
    Jerry was a Vietnam veteran, who served in the United States Navy from 1963-67 on the USS Oriskany.
    He was a dedicated member of Chatuge Assembly of God, where he served as choir director and gladly volunteered to the upkeep of the building and grounds.
    Jerry had worked as a deputy for Clay County Sheriff’s department, and he also loved gardening.
    He was the son of Lemma Hedrick of Gastonia, and the husband of the late Judith Elizabeth Patterson Robinson, who died Feb. 11, 1987. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Judy Stiles Robinson; and two brothers, Eddie and Charles Robinson.
    Surviving are a daughter, Amy Lynn Robinson Kirby and husband Steven of Hiawassee, Ga.; a son, Scotty Robinson of Hayesville; a sister, Sheila Porch of Gastonia; two brothers, Glen and Aggie Hedrick, both of Gastonia; and three grandchildren, Dagen Robinson, Danice Robinson and Cale Kirby.
    A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville, with the Rev. Aline Mosteller officiating. Inurnment will be in Bethel Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison Bristol) and American Legion Post 96 and Murphy DAV Chapter 73.
    The family will receive friends from 1-1:50 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville, prior to the services.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in loving memory of Jerry A. Robinson to Bethel Cemetery, c/o Charles Parker, 769 Muskrat Creek Road, Hayesville, NC 28904.
