James “Jim” Richard Gibson, 87, of Blue Ridge, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at his residence.
He was a native of Murphy, but had lived in Blue Ridge since 1989.
Jim had driven a taxi, worked in the sawmill and as a carpenter. Jim was a hard worker throughout his life, and he didn’t give up until the end.
Jim enjoyed being outdoors and helping others. He was a sweet, kind and caring man to everyone.
Jim had attended Little Glade Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late Leach Richard and Mae McMillan Gibson. He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Vader, Clint “Rat,” Wade and Alfred Gibson.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Margaret Lucille Gibson; a daughter, Loretta Floyd and husband Doug of Blue Ridge; a son, Elvis Gibson of Blue Ridge; a brother, Mack Gibson of Murphy; a half brother, Garr Hood of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jacob Dewayne Gibson, Jessica Bailey, Stephanie Floyd, Wesley Gibson and Brianna Gibson; three great-grandchildren, Promise Joy Gibson, and Katie and Gracie Bailey; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with good friend, the Rev. Eric Davenport, officiating. The interment was at Mount Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brennan Godsey, Doug Floyd, Dewayne Gibson and Billy Joe Derreberry.
The family received friends from noon-1:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, prior to the services.
Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of all arrangements.
