Irvin James Chambers
Irvin James Chambers, 90, of Cornelia, Ga., and formerly of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at the Life Care Center of Copper Basin in Ducktown, Tenn.
He was a native of Cherokee County and the son of the late James Marion and Mattie Weeks Chambers. Irvin was a retired barber and was a U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, Irvin was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Mills Chambers, who passed away Dec. 31, 2018; two brothers, Roy Chambers and Henry Chambers; five sisters, Forrest Whitener, Georgia Mae Deal, Maddie Bryant, Lydia Bryson and Edith Carringer.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Dr. Eddis Dockery officiated. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 96 Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812, Hayesville, and the Marine Corp League, Marble. Pallbearers were Bradley Hurlburt, Millard Hurlburt, Jason Hughes, Ethan Hughes, Justin Hedden and Tanner Creelman.
The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
