Hazel Radford Smith, 70, passed away at home on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Murphy to the late Sydney and Julia Radford. She was preceded in death by her brother, Verl Radford of Murphy.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Roger Smith of Locust Grove, Ga.; sisters, Ruby Price of Clyde; Joyce Carr of Douglasville, Ga.; children and their spouses, Teresa (Mike) Close of Locust Grove, Ga., Tim (Kimberly) Smith of Sharpsburg, Ga.; grandchildren, Allison (Robert) Lundy of McDonough, Ga.; Julie Anna (Timothy) Helms of Cairo, Ga.; Holden and Jake Smith of Sharpsburg, Ga.; and great-granddaughters, Emma and Mae Lundy.
After graduating from Murphy High School in 1963, Hazel moved to Atlanta and resided in Church’s Home for Women on Ponce de Leon, followed by West End, Riverdale and ending up in Locust Grove in 1994. She worked for various companies before retiring from Butts County Health Department in 2003.
She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, from the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home.
Friends visited the family from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, prior to the service. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Hanging Dog Missionary Baptist Church in Murphy.
