Hal Wayne Newton Sr.
Hal Wayne Newton Sr., 75, of Marble and formerly of Gastonia, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Hal was born Nov. 1, 1942, in Murphy to the late C.B. Newton and Birdell Brooks Newton.
A member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ronald Newton; and a nephew, Jason D.
Hal worked as a superintendent for Homelite/John Deere for many years. He enjoyed golfing and farming in his spare time.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Revis Newton; son, Hal Newton Jr.; daughter, Glenda and (Matthew) Payseur; sons, Jon Newton, Mark Newton and Luke Newton; two sisters, Peggy King and Eva Lowe; three brothers, L.C. and (Sandra) Newton, Richard and (Sue) Newton and Dillard and (Debbie) Newton; three grandchildren, Trish Conner, Brittany Weaver and Brandy Weaver; and one great-grandchild, Bentley Conner.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy with the Rev. Harold Stiles officiating.
Interment will follow in Peachtree Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Newton, Jon Newton, Luke Newton, Isaac Stafford, Adam Powell and Matthew Payseur. Honorary pallbearers will include Richard Newton and Timmy Hopkins.
The family received friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Cochran Funeral Home.
