Genevieve Carson Stout, 95, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018, in a Murphy care facility.
She was a native of Mount Solon, Va., but had been living in Murphy since 1978.
She was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Mount Solon High School. She was a graduate of Dunsmore Business College in Staunton, Va.
Genevieve was a postmaster with the Islamorada, Fla., Postal Service, retiring in the mid 1980s. She was a member of Ranger United Methodist Church, where she served as choir director, pianist, organist and treasurer.
She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Lillian Vance Carson, and wife of the late Donald Eugene Stout, who died Nov. 20, 1993. She also was preceded in death by a sister and two half brothers.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty J. Suter of Springfield, Ill.; two sons, General Donald L. Kerrick of Jupiter, Fla., and Dr. George E. Kerrick of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Mary Dove.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, in Ranger United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Lee officiating. The interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary and Richard Kilpatrick, Ken Price, Sam Davis, Dave Tucker and L.D. Beavers. Honorary pallbearers were Ernest Ledford and Bob Edwards.
The family received friends following the service in Ranger United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Genevieve Carson Stout to Ranger United Methodist Church Choir, 156 Ranger Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of all arrangements.
