Gail E. Luther, 79, of Murphy, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018, at her residence.
She was born in Middlesex County, Mass., to the late Gordon Edward and Phyllis Ilene Martin.
Gail taught kindergarten in Hudson, N.H., at Heritage Christian School and Tabernacle Baptist Church. She also was a teacher assistant for Cherokee County Schools. Gail worked for 12 years at the Penland Senior Center. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 10 and Ranger Baptist Church, where she was the organist for more than 35 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Luther; one son, Clay Luther; and one daughter, Deborah Ann Dufour.
She is survived by her two sons, Roger Luther and wife Dina of Walthan, Mass., and David Dufour and wife Dee Dee of Stockbridge, Ga.; three daughters, Dianna Butman of Bryson City, Patricia Marshall of Merrimac, Mass., and Carrie Brousseau and husband Sean of Murphy; four sisters, Arlene Sirois of Monson, Mass., Jacqueline Reiss of Fitchburg, Mass., Donna Prestigiacomo of Brooksville, Fla., and Beverly Martin of Hubbardston, Mass.; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Ranger Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Ranger Baptist Church. The Revs. Jimmy Hogsed and Zack Orton will officiate. The Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 10 will conduct their service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Dufour, Chris Dufour, Sean Brousseau, Jeremiah Barnard, Jeff Frady, Eric Sneed and Derek Cheeks. Honorary pallbearers will be Jearold Stiles and Bob Baker.
