Donald Morris

    Donald Lee Morris, 54, of Blairsville Ga., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018.
    He was a devoted registered nurse at Union General Hospital, a compassionate companion to “his love,” Suzanne L. Kingsley of Blairsville, Ga., and a remarkable father and grandfather to his 10 children and six grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Lee Morris, and son, Jabez Morris.
    Donald was known as “daddy” by his children: Lance, 32; Mary, 27, and spouse Jeremiah Barnard, 32; Elijah, 25, and spouse Larissa, 23; Ellie, 23; Shay, 22; Gabe, 20; Lulu, 17; Micheal, 12; Isaac, 10; and Angelica, 9; and called “Papaw or Grandpaw Georgia” by his grandchildren: Abby Morris, 10; Jake Morris, 8; Hyleigh Morris, 2; Erma Morris, 1; Saige Barnard, 2; and Finnley Barnard, 6 months old.
    He also was very loved and highly respected by his co-workers, which often referred to him as “Big Don” or “Daddy Don.”   
    He was a man of many talents and hobbies, which include woodworking, blacksmithing, stained glass, grilling and building guns. He was a skilled marksman and enjoyed all shooting sports, and was an active member of the Clay Lodge No. 301 AF&AM. He was well known for what he called the “Morris motto” of “make it happen,” which was his go-to phrase when hearing excuses from others or explaining how to accomplish difficult tasks.
    In his honor, a viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Mountain View Funeral Home in Blairsville, G. Funeral services will be held at the same location at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, officiated by Don’s best friend, Roger Powell.
    A Masonic last rite will be given by Clay Lodge No. 301 AF&AM of Hayesville at the Lighthouse Cemetery, 772 John Smith Road E., Blairsville, GA 30512.
    A celebration of life/party will occur at the location of Donald’s residence following graveside services. Flowers will be accepted or donations  made to the Masonic Children’s Home.
