Darlene Kauffman

Our precious wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed through the portals of heaven to meet her Savior and Lord on Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, after a courageous hard fought battle with a diseased body.
Her life was invested in caring for her grandchildren, daughter and husband. During her shortened retirement, she enjoyed fishing, and picking and arranging flowers from the garden.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Western Carolina, she was employed as a registered nurse in the emergency department at District Memorial Hospital. She later received certification as a nursing home administrator, where she worked as administrator for 20-plus years at Valley View Care and Rehabilitation in Andrews and a short time at Clay County Care Center.
She was an active member of Andrews First Baptist Church and a member of the Auxillary of Gideons International.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Denny, and mother, Gladys Adams Barker; stepfather, “Preacher” Robert Barker; and a sister, Oma Jane Webster.
She is survived by her husband, Gary; daughter, Brooke Mashburn Crisp; son-in-law, Chris Crisp; grandchildren, Anna Kauffman of the home, Rachel Crisp of Andrews, Emma Longwith of Bryson City, and Lauren Crisp Moore and husband Mathew; great-grandson, Tanner; devoted sister, Brenda Hill and husband Sherrill of Claremont; brother, Denver Denny and wife Sherry; brothers-in-law, Roger Webster of Robbinsville, Dwight Kauffman of Johnstown, Pa., and Bruce Kauffman of Alpharetta, Ga.; best friend, Janie Strahan; favorite cousin, Debbie Luther Young; former husband and friends, Lynn Mashburn and wife Pam; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Andrews First Baptist Church with Pastor Calvin Bobo and Pastor Aline Mosteller officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Darlene Kauffman to Gideons International, P.O. Box 164, Murphy, NC 28906.
Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews, is in charge of arrangements.
