June 14, 1928 – April 23, 2016
Cynthia S. Zimmer, 87, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family in Litchfield, Conn.
Cynthia, formerly of Blueberry Hill in Murphy, was born in Hartford, Conn., and the daughter of the late Beatrice and Gordon Swebilius. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Jean (1964), and her husband of 59 years, Clifford G. Zimmer Jr. (2007).
Cynthia was a graduate of St. Margaret’s School for Girls in Hartford, Conn. She met and fell in love with Clifford while he was a cadet at West Point. They were married in the chapel of the Most Holy Trinity at the U.S. Military Academy following Cliff’s graduation in 1947.
Cynthia is survived by brothers Peter, Paul and David; daughter Linda Tiani; sons Curt, Thomas, Eric, Steven, Tim and John; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Cynthia was thoughtful, kind and gentle. Her passions were her children, gardening and reading. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church in Murphy for the past 20 years and enjoyed her “dinners out” with her local church group. She organized and ran a busy household for seven children before retiring to Murphy with Cliff to build their dream home.
A memorial and interment of her ashes next to Cliff will be held Friday, July 8, at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
