Carmen Stiles Townson, 85, of Murphy, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. Carmen was the daughter of the late Boyd H. and Della Mae Hedrick Stiles.
She retired from Carolina Tire and had worked part-time for Townson-Rose Funeral Home.
Carmen was a member of Shepherd of the Mountains Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Townson; three brothers, Leonard Stiles, Maynard Stiles and infant brother Marshall Stiles; and three sisters, Leona Martin, Edna Hughes and Shirley Eller.
She is survived by her two sons, Carl Bryan Townson and wife Angela of Hayesville, and Charles Daniel Townson and wife Kristen of Seneca, S.C.; one brother, Roy Stiles and wife Judy of Louden, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Sally Stiles of Sapello, N.M.; four grandchildren, Carl Glenn Townson and wife Amy of York, Pa., Ian Townson of Seattle, Wash., Allison Johnson and husband Brian of Clovis, N.M., Raina Ashe and husband Michael of Camp Lejeune; and one great-grandchild, Conner Townson of York, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Shepherd of the Mountains Church in Murphy. Pastor Al Beck and the Rev. David Fuller officiate. David Turpin provided the music. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in the Peachtree Community. Pallbearers were Haskell Roberson, Johnny Roberson, Jerry Townson, Hubert Wells, Cal Stiles and Tommy McGuire.
The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Shepherd of the Mountains Church.
