Betty Decker Miller Taylor, 94, of Charlotte and formerly of Murphy, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, in a Charlotte care facility.
She was a native of Martinsburg, W.Va., and grew up in Washington, D.C. After working for American Airlines in Washington, Betty moved to Florida where she met and married Joe Miller. She had worked as a loan officer in both Commercial Bank of Hollywood, Fla., and First Union Bank for nearly 20 years.
Betty lived in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., before retiring to Murphy in 1994.
Betty was a devoted mother and devout Christian.
She was the daughter of the late Oller Donald and Elizabeth Ellen Hudson Decker and wife of the late Joe Miller, who passed away March 17, 1978, and the late Charles E. Taylor, who passed away Dec. 8, 1999. Betty also was preceded in death by a son, Shane E. Miller; and a daughter, Kristal L. Miller.
Surviving are a daughter, Kelly Hansen and husband Kris of Charlotte; two sisters, Sally Ann Birge and Helen Jean Allingham, both of Fairfax, Va.; two grandchildren, Kacie Hansen of Riverview, Fla., and Kyle Hansen and wife Theresa of Panama City, Fla.; and two nephews, Kyle and Dwayne Holt.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Episcopal Church of the Messiah with the Rev. Dr. Maggie Roark officiating. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
