Art “Scully” Naveira passed away at 4:54 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Murphy Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 17, 1959, in Fulton County, Ga. He lived and worked all over the world before settling in Andrews.
Art was a former member of the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Berkowitz and Manny and Gerda Naveira.
He is survived by his wife whom he married Nov. 10, 1996, Colleen Weiser Naveira of Andrews; daughter, Christine Winner and husband Nick of Murphy; granddaughters, Meghan Winner of Andrews, Trinity Winner of Murphy; grandson, Xander Winner of Murphy; brothers, Ralph Berkowitz of North Carolina and Ken Berkowitz of Maryland; sisters, Lee McCullough and Tracy Kaufman, both of California; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Taylor of Hayesville; father-in-law, Ed Cass of Hayesville; brothers-in-law, E.J. Cass of Hayesville and Kevin Cass of Florida; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, riding motorcycles, gardening, boating and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking of all kinds and cooking. He was a jack of all trades but a master at one, computers.
He was a proud owner of Scully’s Rolling Thunder in Stuart, Fla., and Andrews and also Joker’s Wild Sweepstakes in Andrews.
No funeral will be held because he did not want it to be held, but a small family service will be held.
The family asks that no flowers be sent but any donations can be sent to his daughter, Christine Winner, for cremation and other expenses.
