Margie Kephart, 81, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at the Hayesville House.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, and the daughter of the late Raymond and Nina Mashburn Hayes.
Margie graduated from Murphy High School. She worked in the Murphy High School cafeteria and at Adams Sportswear.
Margie enjoyed embroidery, quilting and cooking. She was a member of Grape Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kephart; son-in-law, Mervin Simonds; sisters, Georgia Poire, Novella Dockery, Bessie McLeymore and Mamie Hargrave; and brothers, James Hayes, Raymond Hayes Jr. and William Hayes.
She is survived by two sons, Tom Kephart and wife Tammy and Phil Kephart and wife Darlene, all of Murphy; one daughter, Marsha Simonds of Murphy; one brother, John Hayes of Murphy; sister-in-law, Shirley Hayes of Murphy; four grandchildren, Aaron Kephart and wife Joy of Murphy, Miranda Johnson of Murphy, Brittany and Kayla Kephart, both of Hayesville; three great-grandchildren, Paisley Johnson, Caroline and Eleanor Kephart.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Grape Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Jerry Kilpatrick and Steve West officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Floyd Worley, Danny Carroll, Earl Lovingood, Jason Carroll, Aaron Kephart and Greg McDonald.
The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Grape Creek Baptist Church.
