Town council to consider veterans' plea for sign change
The Fourth of July Parade in Murphy made a nice comeback Wednesday, led by American Legion Post 96 and Cub Scout Pack 400 and followed by plenty of terrific entries.
It was fitting that several of our local veterans, with Larry Thunder Wolf Limon leading the way, were first in the parade, as an issue at the forefront in Murphy is whether to add “veterans” to the name and signage of Konehete Park.
At Monday’s town council meeting, Limon and several veterans showed their support for the idea, which was originally suggested by Korean War veteran Oscar Valdes.
Mayor Rick Ramsey agreed to sit down at a meeting with Limon – who was officially sworn in Monday as commander of the American Legion post – and a representative of the Tribal Council of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to discuss the matter.
More on this issue in the July 11 edition of the Cherokee Scout.
