J.D. Peek, 79, of Murphy, went to be with his Lord and savior on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at his home with his family by his side.
J.D. was born Feb. 14, 1937, in Murphy, to the late Bart Peek and Cora Stiles Peek.
He attended and later became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He also attended Old Fashion Baptist Church for 14 years until he couldn’t attend anymore for health reasons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Norvell Peek, brother Felix Peek, infant sister Hazel Peek and sister Helen Greene.
In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars and gardening. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a mechanic by trade and director of transportation for Cherokee County Schools.
Survivors include his adoring wife, Dora Radford Peek; daughter, Lynn (Tom) Deweese; daughter, Sherry Peek; son, Steve (Susan) Peek; one sister, Kathryn Davis; seven grandchildren, Mark, Evan, Brittany, Kendra, Stephanie, Chelsea and Tiffani.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at Cochran Funeral Home with the Revs. Hoyt Brown and Edward Carter officiating. Interment followed at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, at Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers included Evan Deweese, Mark Deweese, Adam Radford, Douglas Radford, Robbie Tompa, William Leatherwood, Jonathon Newton and Tim Radford. Honorary pallbearers were J.D.’s special little buddy, Mason Radford, and Eric Radford.
The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at the funeral home.
Arrangements were entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy.
