DSS director given 15-day extension to administrative leave
Murphy – Cherokee County Director of Social Services Cindy Palmer’s status with the department has been extended for 15 days.
On Tuesday, the DSS board of directors voted unanimously to extend her investigative leave status for 15 days to May 28. She had been placed on 30-day leave with pay, which was to end May 13.
The board talked about the problem of many unfilled positions at the department, which harms quality of service to clients. Several of those positions have been filled and efforts are underway to hire more employees.
Another big problem has been lack of training and in many cases, only one person being trained for a particular field in the department. Efforts are being made to provide more state training in all areas as well as to bring training closer to Cherokee County. Many state training events are held in places such as Durham or Raleigh.
