Local and regional agencies and organizations are encouraged to participate in two community resource fairs being held in Clay and Cherokee County in July.

First, from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, July 10, bags of resources will be provided to clients of Matt’s Ministry during regular food distribution times. Everyone at the Hayesville food ministry that day will be able to receive free resource bags.

Then from 5- 7 p.m. Monday, July 19, a drive-through resource fair will be held at Marble Springs Baptist Church in Marble. Anyone may drive through and receive bags filled with resources, such as tips for families, insurance options, kids’ activities, food resources and more.

Many people do not know where to find reputable information about available resources, while others do not have internet access in order to search. The pandemic has made the lack of resource knowledge even more obvious. With that in mind, Mountain Projects prevention team, known as Mountain Strong, has partnered with the Cherokee Scout and Clay County Progress to provide the resource fairs.

All local and regional agencies, faith-based groups, churches, youth-serving organizations, as well as those serving senior citizens, are invited to provide information for either or both resource fairs.

Whether it is vacation Bible school flyers, coupons, booklets, food distribution information, pencils, hand sanitizers or other small items, any agency or business with something to offer the community is welcome to provide information. Donations of bags are also welcome, especially reusable bags.

There will be limited space for groups who would like to attend and set up a table at the Cherokee County event. Children’s’ games, recipe distribution and other creative ideas are encouraged. A table with Spanish resources is also planned for the Cherokee County event.

For Clay County, 100 English flyers and 15 Spanish flyers are needed by July 8. Please provide 150 English flyers and 50 Spanish for the Cherokee County event, by Wednesday, July 13. Donations of other giveaways are encouraged.  Flyers may be mailed to 37 Lakeview Drive, Hayesville, NC 28904 or dropped off at the Progress, 43 Main St. in downtown Hayesville.
