Andrews – Friends of the Andrews Library want to give someone a college scholarship, but no one has applied for it yet.
As a result, library officials have extended the deadline to apply for the $500 Adult Continuing Education Scholarship to Friday, Dec. 20.
The scholarship is open to adults who have been out of high school for two years and are returning to college to either switch careers or start a new one.
Applications can be picked up at the Andrews Public Library on Main Street or downloaded from its Facebook page.
In other news, author Chad Von Dette, who wrote 101 Ways to Win a Fight, will give a free self-defense presentation at the library at 6 p.m. Thursday. Patrons ages 11 and up can participate. Dette is a U.S. Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee who starred in the documentary Just Yell Fire. His approach to self-defense is used by law enforcement agencies, women's shelters, Ivy League universities, and middle and high schools throughout the country.
Library officials would also like to thank all residents who donate materials to the Friends of the Andrews Library Used Book Store on Main Street. However, they ask that any donations made after business hours be left outside of the actual library down the street, which has a covered porch to keep the books from getting wet when it rains.
