    Deadline for submission of items for the arts and entertainment calendar is 3 p.m. Friday.


    The Cherokee County Arts Council will present a special exhibit, “Two for Two,” by local artists Suzanne DesLauriers and Annie Fain Liden-Barralon, have been invited to display their art work done in two separate media during January. “Two for Two” will be open to the public through Thursday, Jan. 30. Admission is free. The Murphy Art Center at 22 Valley River Avenue in downtown is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
    The Murphy Art Center in downtown has a classroom available for anyone looking for a place to teach adults or kids art, crafts, music, writing, yoga, bee keeping, mushroom identification, herbs, gardening, etc. For details, contact Penny Johnson, classroom coordinator, at ClassesAtTheMAC@gmail.com.

Jan. 18
    Auditions for the season opener, Out of Order, at the Peacock Performing Arts Center in Hayesville will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Rehearsals will be from 7-9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, Jan. 27. Performances are set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 6-8 and March 13-15. Scripts are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the office and may be checked out for three days with a $5 refundable deposit. Call 389-2787 for details.
    The Sock Hops will appear at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Peacock Performing Arts Center, 301 Church St. in Hayesville. Tickets – $29 for adults and $25 for students – are available online at thepeacocknc.org; by stopping by or calling the box office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at 389-2787; or at Tiger’s Department Store on the square in downtown during their normal business hours.

Jan. 26
    The Young Harris (Ga.) College Community Band will resume rehearsals from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, in the new band facility on campus. Rehearsals will be held every Sunday afternoon thereafter in preparation for a Sunday, March 1, concert in Glenn McGinnis Hall. New members are encouraged to attend.     ACT2 Players will present Rex’s Exes, a “southern-fried mid-life crisis” comedy, for its annual dessert fundraiser. Shows will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Valleytown Cultural Arts Center, 125 Chestnut St., Andrews.
