Newspaper, radio joining forces to promote county
Murphy – Two different forms of local media communications are coming together to put a positive spotlight on the place we call home.
The live show Celebrate Cherokee County, with the name based on the Cherokee Scout’s ongoing community campaign, kicked off Feb. 2 and continues from 2-3 p.m. Friday. The show will air on the first Friday of every month; you can hear it on WKRK-FM 105.5, AM-1320 and Cable TV Channel 25 and watch on Facebook Live.
Scout Publisher David Brown and WKRK owner Tim Radford came up with the idea for the show because of their desire to see the community come together as one. The show will focus on building that unity while pointing out the many positive aspects of living and working here.
“Like the name says, this show is all about celebrating Cherokee County, its people, places and things,” Brown said. “Tim and I have a great rapport with the community, and I’m happy to share more about these stories in different ways.”
This week’s show will feature Stephanie Boynton from Erlanger Health System to discuss the company’s pending takeover of Murphy Medical Center about 2:15 p.m. Andrews Mayor James Reid and Murphy Mayor Rick Ramsey will be on hand around 2:30 p.m. to talk about what’s going on in their respective towns and how they might better work together in the future.
“I am very excited to be working with David on the show,” Radford said. “There are so many great things about our community that often go unnoticed. Our goal is to focus on the positive news that makes Cherokee County the place we love to call home.”
There’s more to come with the media partnership. For example, Brown and Editor Matthew Osborne joined Radford, Reid and new Andrews Police Chief Tony Pritchett on a separate show last week to discuss the police department.
Future shows will include a sports roundtable, help for the local economy and political debates.
