    Herman Murphy, 84, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at his residence.
    He was a native of Cherokee County. He was a deacon of Violet Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
    Herman had done disaster relief with North Carolina Baptist Men. He was the greatest husband ever.
    He was the son of the late Gay and Lottie Greene Murphy. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, J.D. Murphy, Glenn Murphy, and Grady Murphy; and a sister, Corena Wilcox.
    Surviving are his wife, Doris Wilma Graham Murphy; three sons, Bruce Murphy and wife Jennifer, Phillip Murphy and wife Stephanie, and Kevin Murphy and wife Dana; two daughters, Sue Lynn Ledford and husband Ronnie, and Rhonda Leblanc and husband Stephen; two brothers, Calvin Murphy and Olen Murphy, a sister, Katherine Rose; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 25, at Violet Baptist Church with the Revs. Calvin Murphy and Isaac Rhodes officiating. The body lay in state from noon-2 p.m. Interment was in the church cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Granddaughters served as honorary pallbearers. Music was provided by Stephanie Murphy and the granddaughters, and Janice Reid.
    The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
    Townson-Rose Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
