Mother accused in deaths of 4-year-old twins

Murphy – Four-year-old twin boys were killed and their mother accused in their deaths on Saturday.

“We are working on a release, victims were 2 twin 4 year old boys, mother is in our jail currently charged with 2 counts of first degree murder,” Cherokee County Sheriff Dustin Smith texted on Sunday.

Smith confirmed that the suspect is Genevieve Ellen Springer, 44, of 75 Gooseberry Road in the Harshaw area. 
Springer is being held without bail at the Cherokee County Detention Center in Murphy on two counts of first degree murder.

The sheriff first announced the case in a Facebook post on Saturday:

“Deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are investigating a homicide in the Harshaw Community of Murphy. There is no danger to the local community. As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details can be released at this time.”
