Murphy – On Feb. 27, Bulldogs senior Dominick Rummler was 15 points shy of reaching the 1,000-point mark in his high school career.
Rummler got 13 of those points in the first half. He was fouled twice early in the third period and missed one of the free throws on the first foul.
The second time he got fouled, he hit the monumental shot. There was no stoppage of play, no announcement or anything at the time.
In fact, when Rummler fouled out midway through the fourth quarter, he did not think he had made it because nobody had said anything to him. There was a ceremony after the game, but at that point he didn’t know.
“When I fouled out, I didn’t think I had got it, but with about a minute to go I saw them bring out the poster and I figured yeah I got it,” he said.
With 21 points in the game, Rummler reached 1,006 points in his high school career.
