Melvin Leigh Upchurch of Murphy died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, of Covid-19 pneumonia in Cape Coral Hospital in Cape Coral, Fla. He was born May 5, 1944, in Rushville, Ill.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; two sons, Greg and Kevin; one stepson, Kenny; one stepdaughter, Angela; two granddaughters, Kasey and Mariah; one sister-in-law, Camille; and one great-grandson, Brayden.
He served in the U.S. Army for three years during the Vietnam War.
He spent 30 years as a postal carrier.
His hobbies included woodturning, fishing and quilting.
He was a member of the Oasis Shriner and very involved in raising money for the children’s hospital.
A memorial service will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Murphy.
