    Luke Williamson, 78, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, at his residence.
    Luke was a native of Savannah, Ga., and was raised in Oak Park, Ga., from an early age.
    He was a graduate of Georgia State University where he received a business degree.  
    Luke was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Army from 1966 until 1968.
    He began working with Sears and Roebuck, and retired as a manager in 1987, following a career that spanned 24 years.
    Luke was involved with Guardian Ad Litem and was passionate about the volunteer work he was a part of.  
    He was a member of Murphy Church of God.
    He was the son of the late Sumner and Annie Jane Osteen Powell Williamson, and was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
    Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Oleta Beaver Williamson; one daughter, Melissa Boone and husband Shannon of Tega Cay, S.C.; one son, David Williamson and wife Ginny of Powder Springs, Ga.; and six grandchildren, Hannah, Rebekah and Daniel Williamson, Grace and Finley Boone, and Madelyn Reed.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Revs. Phillip Cochran and Calvin Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites provided by Murphy American Legion Post 96, Hayesville VFW Post 6812, and Hayesville American Legion Post 532.  Pallbearers will be Shannon Boone, Daniel Williamson, Bill Flowers, Gregg Faus, Jerry Decker,and Bill Travers.
    The family will receive friends from 1-1:50 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, prior to the service.
    In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials in memory of Luke Williamson be made to Guardian Ad Litem, 40 Peachtree St., Murphy, NC 28906.
    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, is in charge of arrangements.
