    Jackie C. Wayman, 71, of Murphy, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021, surrounded by family.
    He was a native of Monroe County, Tenn., and had moved to Murphy at a young age.
    He began his career teaching math at Hiwassee Dam High School in 1972. In addition to teaching, he served as the athletic director, coached basketball and started the football, track, baseball and volleyball programs. He retired from Hiwassee Dam Schools after 30 years of service.
    Jackie was truly devoted to and beloved by both family and friends. He was an active member of Murphy First Baptist Church. He was a founding member of Ranger Volunteer Fire Department and served for over 30 years.
    Jackie enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling with his family.
    He was the son of the late C.W. and Sue Peace Wayman. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Warhurst; and a brother, Jimmy Lee Wayman.
    Jackie is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of almost 50 years, Karen Caldwell Wayman; one daughter, Amy Wayman Lovingood and David of Murphy; one son, Stuart Hamilton Wayman and Monica of Murphy; one sister, Dorinda “Dennie” Stearns, of Murphy; one brother, Donnie Wayman and Sue of Spring City, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Will, Anna and Katie Coffey, and Ellison and Jack Wayman. He is also
survived by many nieces
and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 8, at Murphy First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. Pallbearers were Tim Hughes, Michael Isbill, Eric Sneed, Dustin Wayman, Joey Caldwell, Kenneth Hicks, Brandon Guthrie, Ward Metcalfe and Danny Comer.
    The family received friends from 5-6:45 p.m. Monday, March 8, prior to the service.
    A private graveside service was held Tuesday, March 9, at Sunset Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Murphy First Baptist Church Operation Christmas Child Program.
    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of all arrangements.
