Derrick “Grady” Thompson, 47, of Andrews, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021, following complications from a heart condition.
He was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County.
Derrick had a magnetic personality and a contagious laugh that could brighten a room. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a kind and gentle soul. Derrick was a friend to all who knew him and never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and loved his daughters deeply.
He was the son of Patricia Thompson of Murphy and the late Bill Thompson.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Kate Thompson of Andrews; three daughters, Ashlyn, Gwyn and Danielle; two sisters, Debi Mills and Dana Reda; and a brother, David. He is also survived by many extended family members.
The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy. The family asked that those who attended to wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to benefit his daughters to the Derrick Thompson Memorial Fund at United Community Bank.
Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of all arrangements.
